Although summer usually means a lull at St. Francis, there has been plenty of exciting youth-focused work to do these last couple of weeks. One of my priorities has been taking advantage of the summer break to explore new opportunities to serve young people beyond our church walls, and I’ve been meeting with organizations in both Palos Verdes and Inglewood to learn how St. Francis can support local youth through volunteering and mentorship. It is encouraging to see so many opportunities to build relationships and serve our wider community.
I also recently had the privilege of representing St. Francis at a resource fair for foster youth in the South Bay who are graduating from high school and beginning the next chapter of their lives. It was a wonderful event, filled with organizations offering practical support and encouragement. One of the things that struck me most was how many of the young people already had strong faith identities. It was a real joy to meet them, hear a little of their perspectives, and witness the resilience they carry with them as they step into adulthood.
Looking ahead, our Faithful Families gathering will be heading to Torrance Beach this Sunday, July 26th, and everyone is warmly invited to join us! Bring something to eat and drink, and meet us at 4:00 PM by the large restroom facility directly below Miramar Park. We’ll find a great spot on the beach to relax and enjoy one another’s company.
