Taizé at St. Francis
Held in our chapel lit by hundreds of candles, Taize is a 45-minute contemplative service of gently sung chants led by musicians. If you wish, join in with the chants (printed service sheet provided); light a candle during a musical interlude; speak privately with a prayer leader who will pray with you for whatever is on your heart; or simply remain seated, basking in the candlelight, and let your worries and fears melt into God’s hands.
Date and Time
Our Taizé service typically takes place on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with occasional exceptions during the holidays. Visit our church calendar to check when our next Taizé will be held, or contact Kristina Pela at krab3@yahoo.com to be added to our email distribution list.
Fellowship
The service is followed by a small reception of light refreshments and conversation.
Get involved
Join our friendly team in setting out and lighting the candles, preparing the reception, and afterwards extinguishing and storing the candles until our next Taizé.
More about Taizé
The Taizé Community was founded by Frère Roger in 1940. He pondered what it really meant to live a life according to the Scriptures and began a quest for a different expression of the Christian life.
The Community now has around 100 brothers, and has become one of the world’s most important sites of Christian pilgrimage. Over 100,000 young people from around the world make pilgrimages to Taizé each year for prayer, Bible study, sharing, and communal work. Through the community’s ecumenical outlook, they are encouraged to live in the spirit of kindness, simplicity and reconciliation.
